3 Ways to Lose Weight without Eating Less
Here are 3 ways to lose weight without eating less or changing your diet.
If you are looking to lose weight, many variables such as nutrition, exercise, breathing, stress, relationships, etc. should be considered but I wanted to speak to the fact that a calorie isn’t simply a calorie.
The calorie in, calorie out model is flawed because it measures the amount of energy food has but does not take into consideration variables about a given individual such as:
What state of health is the gut of the person consuming the food?
What time of day are the meals consumed?
How active is the person?
1: Narrow your eating window
Our digestive system has 2 main roles: To digest food obviously as well as repair itself when it’s not processing food.
This time to repair is critical in order to have optimal hormonal and immune health. Your body will be in a much better position to break down and utilize nutrients from your meals. We have a daily cycle of hormone production and when we are most active in the day, typically the mornings and afternoons, we are in the best position hormonally and physiologically to break down food. You process food better when eating while you are active versus snacking in the middle of the night.
2: Get movement in after meals.
Movement helps break down your meal. When we eat dense foods and animal meats it takes a lot of energy for our body to heat up and break down the food. Movement keeps the body warm providing a better environment to break food down. If we sink into a couch after we eat a meal, specifically a meal our body has to work hard for, food may just sit in the gut, waiting to be processed, and the food can begin to ferment. Whereas, if we go for a quick 5-15 minute walk we will really help get digestion going and we will feel much better and more clear-headed.
3: Take a good quality digestive enzyme before your meal.
This will help break the food down and intake more of the nutrients from the food. Many people have a hard time breaking down and absorbing nutrients and end up peeing and pooping them out. If the goal is to get the most out of our food we should be proactive with improving our digestive function. We can add probiotics to our food such as fermented veggies, kombucha, apple cider vinegar, yogurt, etc. or we can take a good quality digestive enzyme. As always, sourcing your supplements is very important as the industry is poorly regulated. The brand I use is here and you can receive a discount through this link!
